This article for goldfish:
- Goals and dreams give meaning to life, but only if you enjoy the process of getting closer to those goals and dreams. If not, it’s not the right dream for you.
- Becoming rich and famous will not make you happy in the long run and should therefore not be your end goal.
- You don’t win life when you achieve your goals, no matter how big your goals were. The process of getting there is more important.
This article for humans:
Goals give meaning to life.
Goals are a reason to get out of bed every morning: getting that one step closer to where you eventually want to be. Some goals are ambitious (eg. setting up your own successful business), others less so (eg. getting through the day to pay the bills).
Generally speaking, the bigger you dream, the more resources you will find to get a step closer to this dream. Key point is that you keep believing in and keep working on your dream tirelessly. No matter what hurdles come on your path.
If your ultimate life goal is getting rich and famous, I’d highly recommend to reconsider. Money and fame can be fun for a while, but it is not the answer. It is not what will make you happy in the long run. Worry less about what other people think of you and the stuff you own. There are more important things in life.
Make no mistake, there’s no gold at the end of the rainbow. Achieving your goals does not mean you won life and unlocked happiness forever. In fact, if you find yourself in this situation, you will likely get bored soon after and set yourself new goals to achieve.
Goals and dreams are there to give purpose. Therefore it becomes more important to enjoy the process of getting closer to those goals and dreams, than actually achieving those goals. If you are not enjoying the process, it’s not the right dream.
The process is not a journey with your goal as the end point. Rather see it as a song.
You don’t listen to a song to reach the end, only to realize you were supposed to enjoy yourself and dance while the music was still playing! Picking a goal to live for, is like picking a song to dance on. It better be a good one.
You’ll know you are doing it right, when you get out of bed every morning with a smile on your face and a hunger to take on the day that’s ahead. Time should fly during most days! It’s a sign you’re having fun. It should be difficult to call the day an end.
Set goals that matter to YOU and enjoy the process of getting a step closer to your dream every day. Whether you achieve that dream or not – no matter how big – it doesn’t really matter in the end.
When the song ends, all there is left is silence – no matter how well you danced while the music was still playing.
Depressing? Potentially. Should you enjoy the dance nonetheless? I think so, it’s fun!
